Kenton Lakewold Obituary

LAKEWOLD, Kenton Boyd
(Age 82)

Ken died peacefully at Hospice House in Spokane on September 30th from mesothelioma. He was born to Roy and Beatrice Lakewold on April 11, 1929 in Havre, Montana. His parents settled in Livelong, Saskatchewan and lived there for several years before returning to the States and settling in Spokane. Ken graduated from John Rogers High School and worked in the restaurant business until enlisting in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He graduated from Eastern Washington State College in 1958 with a degree in art education. Ken taught art at many Spokane schools until his retirement in the late 1980s. His students provided years of joy and inspiration for Ken, and many became life-long friends. Ken restored the log cabin on the family homestead in Livelong where he lived as a young child. Ken's interest in art and beautiful antiques was a passion that he shared with his family and friends, who were inspired by his numerous interests. Ken traveled extensively in the United States and Europe, but his favorite place to spend winters was in Zihuatanejo, Mexico, where he made many close friends. Ken is survived by his beloved niece, Carolyn and her husband, Fred Goldberg; brothers Claude (Dorothy) Lakewold and Roy (Barbara) Lakewold, and sister Marjory Kallem; nephews Eric Lakewold, Ror Lakewold, Kris Kallem, and Chris Bell, and niece Kirsten Ennis; great-nieces and nephews. Memorials may be given to Hospice of Spokane (P.O. Box 2215, Spokane, WA 99210), which provided exceptional and compassionate care to Ken during the last months of his life.
