I worked with Dr. MacKay for many years at Macomb Hospital. He treated his patients and staff with respect and care. He was a gentle spirit and will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure to know him. My deepest sympathy to Laura, Marilyn, and his grandsons.

Time is flying by now. It was only yesterday, or so it seems, that I met Don. Harper Hospital, 1964 or was it 65? I was an intern and Don was a surgical resident. Regardless, we trained somewhere together and had a great time. Herman Kiefer, Detroit Receiving and Harper is where our travels took us. Our travel mats were many, J.C. Elie, Al Santino, Pat Valani, G. Kypros, B. Harrity to name just a few in those old good days. (Still see some). I finished my orthopedics in 1968. Good old Holy Cross Hospital where we did our surgery. Don did ecological surgery for awhile. We would help one another on different cases. Don went on to his radiation oncology speciality and our paths would cross at South Macomb but only periodically. Lost track of the family when they moved to California, Marilyn and Laura. Don was a good guy, I'll (we'll) miss him.

How sorry I am to hear of the passing of such a wonderful physician. I had the honor of working with Dr. MacKay for more than 15 years. In that time he touched the lives of so many patients, physicians and staff at St John Macomb Hospital. He is remembered by all of us for the kindness and compassion he showed to his patients and staff throughout the years.
