Toner, Jr., Hugh F.

Hugh F. Toner, Jr., 92, of Westmont, IL, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2023. Born in 1931 in Chicago to Hugh and Margaret Toner, Hugh led an extraordinary life deeply rooted in faith, family, and service.

A proud alumnus of St. Philip High School and DePaul University, Hugh earned his CPA and dedicated over 45 years of his life to his accounting practice. Serving many small businesses and Churches in the Chicago area, his impact was particularly notable at St. Angela Parish, where he also had served as president of the Home and School Association. A proud veteran of the Air Force, Hugh felt well-rewarded when on his return to Chicago from his service in Alaska he met Maureen Buckley, who was visiting from her home in Oak Park, IL, in a hotel elevator in Portland, OR.

That chance meeting led to Hugh's most cherished role as devoted husband to Maureen, and father to their 11 children-Hugh III, Patrick, Terence, Laurence, Jack, James, Kevin, Chris, Tim, MaryAnn, and Maureen-as well as 14 beloved grandchildren. The love and wisdom he imparted will live on as a lasting legacy. He felt especially blessed that Maureen and all 11 children survived him, along with his brother James, of Carmichael, CA. Predeceased were his siblings John, Paul and Rosalie Gies.

Visitation Saturday, November 4 th , from 9:00 a.m. until time of Prayers, 10:00 a.m. at Adams-Winterfield & Sullivan Funeral Home, 4343 Main Street (1 Blk. So. of Ogden Ave.), Downers Grove to St. Mary of Gostyn Church. Funeral Mass 10:30 a.m. Interment Queen of Heaven Cemetery. Hugh was a beacon of service and faith, touching countless lives and giving glory to God through his incredible family. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
