Hugh Moorhead Obituary

Moorhead, Ph.D., Hugh S. emeritus, 79, World War II, U. S. Army (Tinian Isl.), native of Ashland, KY., beloved father of Rebecca (Richard) Culbertson and Ann Moorhead, proud grandfather of Theodore "Teddy" and Kathryn "Katie" Culberson, dear brother of Betty (the late George) Moorhead Clayton of St. Peterburg, FL., survived by ex-wife and friend, Elizabeth Elwers Moorhead, Ph.D. Hugh earned his B.S. & M.A. from University of Kentucky and his Ph.D in Philosophy from University of Chicago in 1964. He served as Midwestern Regional Director for the Great Books Foundation from 1953-1959 and in 1968 began a long and satisfying career teaching Philosophy at Northeastern Illinois University. He eventually served as Chairman of Philosophy Department, published several articles and in 1998 published as a compendium of quotes from famous thinkers entitled "The Meaning of Life". As Hugh's colleague for many years at Northeastern, I would like to convey my deepest sympathy to his family. He was one of my favorite colleagues, a "good" man at all times. He has been and will be missed by many of us.
