I'd like to share a story about Howard that, I think, says a lot about what kind of person he was. This past March 25th was my 43rd anniversary with WCIU TV, so I have known Howard a long time.
It was the early 70's, I was young, and going out a lot (hard to believe since I am such a homebody now). Sometimes I would just have time to take a shower and get to work on time - 6:30 AM. Howard noticed this and called me into his office one morning. He started by saying that he had no problem with my work and, in fact, appreciated that I would go the extra mile to see that the show (Stock Market Observer) went well. He had noticed that my late nights turned into early mornings with no sleep and he had some advice about burning the candle at both ends. He said I had every right to tell him to mind his own business, but I felt just the opposite. I appreciated that he cared enough to say something. I took his advice to heart (and put one end of that candle out). I have always felt that I was more than just another employee to him and can honestly say that I am a better person for having known him. I will miss Howard very much.

The Memories of Howard hosting his fabled 4th of July parties will forever be etched in our minds, as will be his unique brand of telling humorous stories. His presence was always low keyed, but larger than life and will be sorely missed by his family and close friends. Our heartfelt condolences go out to Howard's family.
