Howard Lapin Obituary

Lapin, Howard 74, died peacefully at home in La Jolla, CA, Saturday, November 9th, after a long illness. He was born and lived most of his life in Chicago. The son of Ben and Mary Lapin, he graduated from the University of Wisconsin. He worked with his father at the family's funrniture business and late in the carpet industry where he was a co-founder of Galaxy Carpet Mills. Winters spent in La Jolla, CA, eventually led to a move there with his wife, Julia. His interest in art and people led to his serving on the board of the art gallery at the University of California at San Diego. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Doreen (Byer) and his brother, Erwin Linn. He is survived by his wife, Julia, her children and grandchildren, his son David (Leslie Saunders) Lapin of Glencoe, his son, Michael Lapin of Chicago and his granddaughters, Maxine and Arden Lapin of Glencoe. He is also survived by his brothers, Mandel Kaplan of Chicago and Robert Linn of Glenview.
