Herbert Sapstein Obituary
Sapstein, Herbert "Buddy" 80, adored husband and best friend of Joan (nee Weiss) for 60 years, devoted and most treasured father of Barbara Sapstein (Michael), David (Gale) Sapstein, and the late Marcia Sapstein, cherished grandfather of Jacob Sapstein (partner Derek) and Nicole and Kruise Sapstein, dear grand dog father of Montana Rae the late Lakota Sioux Sapstein, and fond brother of Ira and the late Paul Sapstein and the late Ann Kreiter. Mr. Sapstein was the founder and President of Sapstein Brothers Pharmacy Chain. He was the Former president of Kol Emeth Synagogue and JUF and Israeli Bonds Man of year. Herbert started the first chapter of the Integrated Lions Club of Chicago, Chatham Division. He developed the pharmacy for the Friendship Center of Sarasota, FL and volunteered at Mote Marina. Chapel Service Thursday, 12:15 p.m. at Shalom Memorial Funeral Home, 1700 W. Rand Road, Arlington Heights. In lieu of flowers, donations to Cancer Research Foundation, PO Box 0493, Chicago, IL 60690. Because of Herb's commitment, the Friendship Centers' medication assistance program has helped literally thousands of seniors who can't afford expensive prescriptions. Dear Joan, My heart cries out to you, what a wonderful guy Soupy was. To me he will always be "Soupy".Class of '47 and that last reunion was great seeing both of you. He will be greatly missed. I remember him from the flea mkt in Fl when I surprised him with a visit to his booth, the look on his face was priceless. Gene Stephens class of '47, also sends his deepest sympathy. Joan and family, My heart broke this a.m. when I saw Herb's notice in the paper. You may or may not recall, we graduated S.S. June '47 and have kept slightly in touch over the years. I saw him last when he was in Chgo for a family shiva. He was a dear. My heart cries. Hopefully your many happy memories are some help at this difficult time.
