I just learned of Dr. Maurer“s passing today as I googled her name. In 1974, I was 10 yrs old and very ill with leukemia when I met Dr. Maurer. I owe her and a handful of other doctors and nurses my life. I am so sorry your family has lost this wonderful lady. She was truly a gift from God for my family and myself. I just wanted to share with her family, as I am sure you already know, what a truly caring, remarkable woman she was. Again, sorry for your loss.

No matter how old we are, losing a mother is one of the deepest sorrows a heart can know.
I miss you, mom. Every day.

Today I learned of the passing of Dr. Johnstone and am so deeply sorry for your loss. She saved my son's life in 1993. She also saved me from sorrow, pain and unbearable fear. I loved her like a mom and will always remember her words to me. "After man does all he can, we need to pray and let God do his job and there is nothing like a mother's prayer." I prayed and today my son is 28, graduate of Cornell University and doing extremely well. Thank you Dr. Johnstone. I will never forget you. May God bless your family during their time of grief. God has done his job.

Helen was a wonderful person who did great things not just for her own daughter but for for her step children as well. I will always be grateful for how good she was to my Uncle Paul and for being so kind to me as a child and teenager at extended family gatherings.

I was a nursing colleague at CMH with Helen and a fellow member of COG with her for many years. She was a skilled and compassionate oncologist who cared so much for the children and their families. She has touched so many and made a difference in their lives. She will be remembered with love.

Helen was a true example of what it means to be a Christian. She lived her life for Christ. No words can describe what she meant to Skokie Valley Baptist Church.
My husband and I were priviledged to serve with her on the Mission Team. I was proud to call her my friend.
May the blessing she was to others, comfort you now.

So sorry for your loss. God promises us that He will wipe out every tear from our eyes and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.

As one of Helen's trainees, and then colleagues, I owe much to her example of dedication, forthrightness, and the importance of competence as well as compassion. She was a no nonsense woman who was an excellent example to me. One of my great pleasures as a now mid career physician was to become her colleague as well as her student.
May her memory be source of inspiration and blessing to her family and to all those whom she touched.

My sympathies to the entire loving family of Helen. I had the wonderful pleasure of spending a week in China last fall with Helen. She was an excellent teacher and her love for the Lord was evident in her life, work and her commitment to missions.

Praise God that Helen is now with the Lord, but she will be greatly missed by friends and family and those she served on earth! Helen has given much to many people in many venues and locations. I had the blessing of spending time with her a couple of years ago at the CMDA MidWest conference in Michigan. Just last fall Helen gave of her time and gifts and paid her own way to teach colleagues in China. She also met with other women physicians in the Chicago area for a monthly Bible study. Condolences to the family and thanks for the gift of her love and service!

My most sincere condolences to the family. I knew Helen in the 80's as Dr. Maurer, the finest mentor in a pediatric training program that a young woman could hope for. I was fortunate to see her in recent years at educational seminars, still brushing up on medicine to be able to continue volunteering overseas. Her legacy extends farther than you may know. I will always remember her fondly.
