Dear Barbara, Debbie, and Vicki:
I hope you will remember me. As a child, I cut your grass on Yates. My name is Ralph Newmann.
I was so sorry to hear of your father's death, but, at the same time, I was able to relive the wonderful memories of what was a much better and simpler time.
I knew your father, Uncle Joe, Grandfather Sam, and even Tony, a white-haired gentleman for virtually all my "South Shore" life. They we always Harry, Joe, Sam, and Tony - never "Mr."
As I remember your father and the stores on 79th, 87th, and Hyde Park, it brings back an era of good times with simply very nice people.
My best to Joe.
Sincerely,
Ralph Newmann

I was very sad to hear the news about Uncle Harry and my thoughts are with all of his immediate family as well as all of us who knew him.
As Adam wrote here previously, my fondest memories of Uncle Harry are also from childhood, visiting and working in the shoe store back in Chicago during the summers. Uncle Harry always had a smile on his face and was a lot of fun to be around. He will be remembered well.

Dear Barbara, Debbie and Vicki,
I am deeply saddened by the loss of my dear Uncle Harry. He was such a wonderful role model growing up in south shore. He and dad were so devoted to their parents and always had a very strong work ethic. All of us "girls" had to do our stint in the shoe store and it was a pleasure observing the brothers at work. Our family is small but the bond is strong. I will miss my dear Uncle Harry and always have a place for him in my heart.
My love to you and your families,
Adam Hollenberg

Dear Barbara & family,
Anne and I wanted to send you our love and let you all know that our thoughts are with you.
Nina and I were talking about all of the times that Uncle Harry would make us laugh when we were with he and Grandpa Joe for many sidewalk-sale summers.
In addition, Anne had a chance to meet Uncle Harry a few years back in Skokie as we shared a great steak together.
We will love him always.
All of our love,
Adam & Anne Hollenberg

Dear Family: No words can express your loss. I believe we will miss him almost as much. He was a friend, a cousin and was as much a part of our family as anyone could be. We will miss him at holidays and in Temple, or just visiting and doing things with him.
Our hearts go out to all of you and know that even though we were not with you physically, we were with you in our hearts.
Love, Audrey and Farrel

As the daughter of Sylvia Krowitz Letwin, I've known Harry all my life. My family made pilgramages from the north side to buy shoes from Uncle Sam, Harry and Joe. My own family would stop on the south side when we drove up from St. Louis to visit. He was always sunny, always up, always so nice to us. I've enjoyed visiting with him when he was here in Florida of late. It's hard to say goodbye; my sympathies are with you.

There was no greater thrill as a child growing up in south shore than going with my father Joe to get shoes from Harry. He was a special one of a kind guy who loved everyone who came through his doors.
I still have memories of your dad washing his chevrolet every Sunday morning in the drive way with a wary eye watching that my dog was kept off your lawn. So sorry for your loss.
