Christmas Eve I would swing by once in a while and see what was going on in Sherman Oaks at your house. Always, food, laughter, and warmth. I prefer celebrating you on your bday February. Still- I have never found a mixer I enjoyed working with and having a solid friendship like we had. I miss our times at the Oyster Bar shooting the breeze and your cooking- Miss you long time.

Harry was quite the character who I got to know through Bogan's Band. Most people would what to play normal instruments, but not Harry. Harry decided that playing the Bassoon, a double reed instrument was for him. Unheard of, but that was Harry. I remember Harry installing a Eight Track player in my car in HS and doing it for nothing. A Lovable guy who has a Dream and Lived it with working with Zappa. I never realized that Harry's Birthday was a day before mine. No wonder I got along with him. His Memory lives in even after All these years.

Andronis- you have been on my mind so much lately. Your bday is coming and as I am working on the foley stage, I try to impart how important it is that a mixer really works with an artist. You taught me so much and we worked so many nights together on the good and the bad and although I was super young, you supported and influenced my work and work-ethic and you were such a good mixer and such an amazing renaissance man. I am babbling but bottom line- I miss you. Alot. Happy early birthday- you made a glorious mark on this planet here.

I never met you, Harry, but we lived near one another. Christ has joined you and I knew him. In fact, your sister-in-law, Lorri, is one of my best friends and she loved you and speaks of you often. You left a lot of friends and colleagues who have made you a legend. I hope the place where you are allows you to dance and to play your instruments any time you choose.

Hey Sweets, it seems like yesterday we got the news about you. I think of you often. I remember the last conversation we had when I was searching for classmates for our 40 yr class reunion. You shared the birthdate of my god-child, so I always remember your birthday. My mom´s gone now, & I hope you got to see her & my dad. Remember sitting in their hotdog stand across the street from school, doing homework? We goofed around more than doing homework. Miss you Buddy!

Harry as yesterday was your birthday I was reminded by this guest book. Now I reflect on the Shadowfax "Dreams Of Children" East Coast Tour in 1985. We were on a GYPSY mission in that huge Winnebago with the whole band and the U haul Truck of Band Gear following us. It was one of those load out, 500 miles to the next show over night runs & I was driving the Winnebago. You started your "donkey laugh" as we were all shattered from exhaustion. Everyone was laughing as a result of your hysterical laugh contamination and I could hardly see the road for the tears of my laughter. I miss you brother and look forward to that laugh again. Yazzou!

Thought of you on your birthday, Lately I keep thinking about an OC show we hung out at - Foo Fighters and Rage Against the Machine - and how bent you were because an unnamed muso was on the bus. Too funny. Watching the Grammys and thinking about you keeping yours on the toilet tank. Damn I miss you. Jod.

So, I was at work..A guy asked me about you out of the blue.
Told me he had been a driver when he met you..He told me how you mentored him. How you gave him critique with kindness as he moved up and it wa yet another reminder of how much you touched people that you probably had no idea you had touched. I looked at this middle aged guy, who once was a driver, telling me how you gave him the confidence to pursue a freer in post. I was on a quick lunch..I started to get upset..Long days..Long nights..little sleep and when I think of you..it still hurts..it is still wrong that you left so soon..

A shock to me. Harry and I kept in touch, and I hadn't heard from or spoken to him in an unusual amount of time. I suspected that something may have happened with the progression of the desease, which prompted me to do a search that led me here.
We last toured together back in 2000 with Tracy Chapman, and had so much fun and good food together. I'll miss him a lot.
Also, my heart goes out to his family, most of which I met when we came through Chicago several times.
I'd be happy to chat with anyone who would like to, especially anyone who had seen or spoken with him close to his passing. I'd like to know any further information anyone has.
Thanks very much.

Paul & Chris (and all my extended cousins),

I'm so sorry to hear about Harry's passing. I've been writing this note for a while now, and with each revision I realize how inadequate my words seem (damn, all those English and Lit classes seem to have failed me).

I never saw Harry while he was battling ALS, so all my memories are from quite a few years back. All those times at the, let me call it the village. The village in Scottsdale, where Tom, Mary, Lou, Betty and Fran, watched over us and occasionally gave us direction, direction that ultimately helped guide many of us. Everyone was welcomed. Everyone was family. Where we played ball, ate ice cream, listened to music, drooled over the opposite sex, experienced age appropriate goofy stupid stuff and just talked. I believe many of us learned how to "take a bow" there. It was so easy. It was so much fun. And as I look back, it was so important.

I have a ton of great memories from those times with Harry front and center. Please extend my sincere condolences to your families and to all my extended cousins.

Our best,

Russie & George Skourlis

“Men like us should live for a thousand years!” Surely Zorba was referring to Harry when he spoke those words.

For Haralambi, (I consider myself truly blessed that your presence has graced my path)

Harry could not rest from travel, for his purpose held
To sail beyond the sunset, and the baths
Of all the western stars:
He drank Life to the lees: all times he enjoyed greatly,
Suffered greatly, both with those
That loved him, and alone;

For always roaming with a hungry heart,
He traversed the streets of inland Chicago and the former arroyos of costal Los Angeles, charging himself with contentment and triumph.

Much had he seen and known. Yet he was part of all that he met.

I sing of thee, oh restless spirit, moss-less rolling stone, man in perpetual motion.

And did Harry Mix, in Modern times, Mix upon Earth's green and pleasant stage,
Bring him his mic of burnished gold, Bring him his albums of desire,
Bring him his pipe of pungent herb, Bring him his chariot of fire.

I sing of thee with an electric voice and praise thee with high praise.

Farewell dear Friend - may we meet again on the fair green fields of Elysium,
Or across the Cosmic Ocean of time and space.
May we meet again - in fair days beneath a gentle star,
or on windswept shores of remorse and misadventure,
it matters not where or when - only that we meet again.

Farewell Friend of my Youth, Witness of my Earthly journey, Loyal, True, and Steadfast Companion.

The Talisman is broken and the Brother-Sisterhood disbanded – each of us left now to travel our separate roads alone.
Mute the lyre - still the song - it is right to grieve in our own fashion according to our own customs.

I met Harry in 1980, at Southcombe Studios in LA., while he was engineering some tracks for my band, The Dallas Collins Band. I instantly knew that he would be a close friend for life. His quick wit and wacky sense of humor made him a pleasure to be around and truly a "One Of A Kind".

Harry was an inspiration to me. Few of us achieve our life's dream as did Harry. Harry's dream was to someday work with Frank Zappa. He achieved that goal by working extensively with Frank for many years.

Harry brought so much joy into so many peoples lives, with his loving, caring, generous and always humorous nature.

Harry... you ROCK! You're in good hands now. I can't wait to hang out and laugh with you again someday.

Your Loving friend forever,
Bruce

January 9, 2011

Harry is one of those people you don't forget. His humor and charm were magnetic. He always made me laugh at "Bogus" high school, as he called it. One time on a field trip to Brookfield Zoo, he told me that the greenery in the landscaping were trees with underground trunks. He delivered that bit of information with such conviction that I believed him... until he flashed that sparkling smile and laughed aloud at my wide-eyed gullibility. Many years later, I saw him again at the height of his physical power. He treated a large group of the class of 73 to an after-reunion party. He was handsome, successful and generous. He was one of my husband's(Marc Donatelle)childhood friends, and when talking with him by phone about our recent marriage, he snarled and said "You two are so disgusting!" But I know he said it with a twinkle in his eye. Harry, you were a master at manifesting your dreams...I am awed by you. May you be at peace.

January 8, 2011

In his youth, Haralambi made mock prostrations before a poster of FZ in his room. Eventually he would journey to the epicenter of that world, and he traversed many other seemingly disparate worlds. Harry linked together these multiple existences: the creative, the unconventional, the traditional, and the diverse people from each of them. It seems to me that he could unite them all because he engendered love in his relationships with people. You weren’t just Harry’s friend, you loved him. As we see in these testimonies, he was beloved by the people who knew him. To me, that was the meaning and legacy of his earthly life, above all the awards and milestones. Harry’s vibe was so strong that strangers could unite around the bond of knowing and loving him. When you looked into those dark eyes and he flashed that dazzling smile, you knew that he was happy to see you. I loved him, he loved me, and I will always honor our friendship.
Aeonia H Mneme, May his memory be eternal.

ANDRONIS.....I was lucky enough to have seen Harry weekly and on Christmas Eve day. We had 2 amazing last visits.
He drank 3 Makers Mark Whiskeys with pleasure and chased down a pretty girl in his chair to catch a smoke. I was running after him down La CIenega and could not catch up. That chair went 25 mph!
He said, "Macias, I know I quit smoking, but how many women in LA actually still smoke? He charmed her; bummed a smoke and we laughed. He was my mentor in foley and he had the heart of a lion and was a true renaissance man. I feel lucky to have known him.

Harry, although we were as different as night and day, you and I had a special connection that lasted 37 years; and which will transcend this earth.
I know you are at peace and in a better place, as I know of no other person who was liked/loved by everyone! - even my conservative family who lovingly teased you about your long hair and your earring back in the late 70's....they adored you, as did my daughter.
You were my constant connection, my joy, my dear friend, simply a beautiful soul.... I talked to you on Christmas, like every holiday, and so regret erasing your voice mail beforehand.
I am heartbroken that I will not hear your voice again. My love goes out to you, and to your family .... I will miss you more than you will know.

Wow the world is a little quieter with out dear Harry in it. Harry and I sat together and mixed hundreds of shows together, he had the uncanny sense of just knowing how to get the most out of anything. His presence filled our stage and lives with joy and laughter. He invented the words congieviate and re-congieviate( to make and unmake something from nothing) along with P.B.I.S (put back in sync) Talking with Harry recently his outlook on death was amazing...he had no bitterness and was truly at peace with his life and situation. Few people lived with such gusto while being an honorable and loyal friend to all. I am a better man from my years with Harry, he helped me through divorce, the loss of my business and lifestyle, he accepted my bad choices and waited for me to figure them out...and said "I told you" in a loving and parental way without shaming me. The loss of a great man ...remembered by all those he touched throughout his short..yet full life. My deart harry I miss you soooo much!!!!!!

Harry, what a bright light you were in all of our lives! You appeared every so often, picking up as no time passed with stories and laughter. Almost every day I tell people of your saying in high school how you would work with Frank Zappa one day, to the time you introduced me to Zappa in Rochester! The world is more boring without your energy, but what a concert must be happening in Heaven! Love and healing to Paul, Christ and family.
