I remember being so inspired by Jim's performances with the Savannah Symphony, especially so by his performance of the Peck concerto. Jim was such a generous person. He helped me on a solo timpani piece written by John Beck that I performed on my graduation recital in college. He was a great friend, a wonderful musician, and a role model. I only learned of his death a month to the day after he passed, and it pains me to know that I did not get the chance to say goodbye. I miss you, Jim. I consider myself very fortunate to have known you.

I was very sorry to learn of Jim's passing, I know he will be missed by many. But I'm also glad for him, because I know he's just moved on to a new level of creating, working for a different Conductor in a different symphony. His spirit will always live on.

I never met Jim, but for years I listened to his voice on WSVH. Always warm and friendly, calm and reassuring, it was one of the main things I liked about the station in those days. I was very sorry when he no longer brought that touch to the airwaves. And I have missed it ever since. He was very special.

May God bless and keep you.
