Hannah Vinyard Obituary

Vinyard, Hannah

Hannah Pearl Vinyard (nee Foster), age 89 of Chicago, IL passed away peacefully on January 26, 2022. She was born on December 5, 1932 in Birmingham, Alabama to Joe Albert and Fannie (Jackson) Foster and was the third of seven children born to their union.

Hannah attended Spaulding Elementary School in Birmingham, Alabama, Rosedale High School in Homewood, Alabama and Columbia Hospital School of Nursing in Columbia, South Carolina. After graduating she worked for the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Winston-Salem, North Carolina before moving to Chicago where she continued to work for the VA until she retired in 1983.

Hannah met Edward "Ed" Vinyard in the early 1970's and they married on July 28, 1975. They enjoyed a loving relationship and a very active social life together. Ed preceded Hannah in death in 1989. Although his absence was challenging for her, Hannah remained active in St. Ailbe Catholic Church (now St. Katharine Drexel), with her Sorority Lambda Pi Alpha, and in her membership with the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Peter Claver, Court 181.

Hannah was preceded in death by her sister Georgia Foster, brother Joe Albert Foster, Jr., mother Fannie Foster, husband Edward Vinyard, sister Mae Rose Shelton, father Joe Albert Foster, sister Fannie Smith, brothers-in-law Bruce Coleman and Tommy Owens, and sister Emily Owens. She is survived by her sister, Joanne Coleman and a host of nieces and nephews.
