Kruse, Giles Joseph

GILES JOSEPH KRUSE, 79, devoted husband and father passed away suddenly and peacefully on May 14th, 2021 in Henderson, Nevada. Born on December 23,1941 in Dyersville, Iowa, he was the son of Leander "Moose" and Margaret (Milbert) Kruse. Early in his childhood, the family moved from Iowa to Chicago where he spent his youth. He graduated from St. Leo High School in Chicago. Giles graduated with a BA from Loras College in Dubuque, IA. After college, he remained in the Chicago area. He earned his MA in English from DePaul University. Giles found his calling to serve through teaching high school English. His first teaching position was at Chicago Vocational School, and he soon found a permanent position at George Washington High School where he met his beloved Rosemarie, also a teacher at the school. He was a dedicated educator throughout his 30-year career and was beloved by his students and fellow colleagues. In retirement, Giles and Rosemarie relocated to Henderson, NV to escape the Chicago winters. Giles had a love of reading and could always be found with a wide selection of detective and mystery novels on his Kindle. He was an avid sports fan, with a particular love of hockey and horse racing. He was a delightful joke and storyteller. Giles was fascinated by games and was a lifelong student of probabilities. Lady Luck was on his side, as he enjoyed a long retirement full of reading, travel, friendship, and time with his treasured family. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Rosemarie (Brodzik) Kruse, of Henderson, NV, and devoted daughter Amy Kruse and her husband Tom Clemence of Annapolis, MD. Giles was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Mary (Kruse) Shuemaker and brother Lawrence Kruse.
