Gilbert Ellman Obituary
Award-winning trombonist Gilbert Michael "Mike" Ellman Jr., 62, passed away Sunday, March 19. Vice-President of Naperville's Ellmans' Music Center, Ellman played for the Naperville Municipal Band, the Aurora Union Band, the DuPage Symphony, the College of DuPage Jazz Ensemble, the College of DuPage Symphonic Band, and the Stay Tuned Orchestra. Ellman won the John Philip Souza Award at Naperville North High School. At Southern Illinois University, he served as President of the Phi Mu Alpha fraternity. He performed in the Disney All American Marching Band in 1982 for the opening of Epcot Center. He was the scoutmaster for Troop 100 in Naperville for many years. Ellman is survived by his wife Crystal Ellman, son Gilbert Michael Ellman III (Michael), daughter Jennifer Marie Ellman, his mother Joan Ellman, sisters Victoria Danforth and Susan Graulty, brother Peter Ellman, and Mike's favorite walking partner, Shiloh. He was preceded in death by his father, Gilbert M Ellman Sr. A Celebration of Life visitation with family will be held at Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Home, 516 S. Washington St. Naperville, this Friday, March 24, from 3 - 8 p.m. A prayer service will be held at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery Grotto (outside) at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 25.

My condolences to Mike's family. After I heard of his passing, my thoughts went back to childhood and all of us kids in the old neighborhood. All we did together in such a simpler time. We have all grown up and went down different roads but I just want you to know you are in thoughts. I wish for healing of your hearts and spirits. Love Prid

I can't say how sorry I am to hear about "Mikes" passing and wish to convey my condolences to the Ellman family. While I had more interaction with Pete, I did share the stage with Mike when he was a member of the Naperville Municipal Band and saw him at Ellman's Music Center. My son worked at EMC and he got to know Mike as well. May you be comforted in this time of loss.
