Getty, Gerald W. age 92, residing in Florida and Michigan, formerly of Homewood. Beloved husband of Gracia Kragness Getty and the late Helen Brennan Getty, loving father of Honorable Michael B. (Therese) Getty, Muriel (Daniel) Stacey and Marie Therese (Robert) Stan, cherished grandfather of Michael Gerard (Peggy) Getty, Julianne Getty (Jason) Brist, Patrick J. (Kathleen) Getty M.D., Daniel (Anna) Ranachowski, Timothy (Kate) Getty and Rachel Goldberg, great-grandfather of Michael, Jeffery, Alexandra, Adriana, Patrick, Michael, Sean and Thomas, dear brother of the late Kenneth (Lavon) Getty and the late Richard (Doreen) Getty, dear brother-in-law of the late Sr. Muriel Brennan (r.c.). Graduate of Mt. Carmel H.S., University of Illinois and De Paul University with a J.D. degree. Mr. Getty became an Attorney in 1937 and served as a U.S. Govt., Attorney until he was appointed in 1945 as a Cook County Assistant Public Defender, then in 1954 as Chief Public Defender in Cook County for 19 years. The Honorary Degree of Doctor of Humane Letters was conferred on Mr. Getty by De Paul University in 1970. Mr. Getty was Co-Author of the book "Public DeFender", Author of "Theory of Condominium Law". He was an Attorney in private practice from 1972 to 1982 and was inducted into "Marquis Who's Who" and multi year member of "Who's Who in American Law". Member of Elks Lodge for 45 years. Funeral service Friday, March 5th, 10:15 a.m. Prayers at Ryan Funeral Home, 18022 Dixie Hwy., Homewood, to Infant Jesus of Prague Church. Mass 11 a.m. Visitation Thursday, 4 to 9 p.m. Interment Holy Sepulchre. Masses preferred. Funeral info: 708-798-0331
