Gerald Egan Obituary

I just discovered this sad news while browsing the Internet. I have many Marine Corps photos of Jerry if the family would like to see them.

I cant express how sorry I am to hear about Jerry. For the past 45 years I've known him he has always brought a smile to those he met, particularly with one of his favorite lines: "that reminds me of a joke." and something always did.



I am sorry I am unable to attend his service but be assured that he and your family will be in my prayers, that god will grant you his peace and comfort.



Jerry will certainly be a loss to his family, friends, and all those he would have met in the future

Dear Egan Family, I am an old grade school friend of Jerry. His warm constant smile, quiet ways, and the many giggles we had will always be in my memories. My prayers and deepest sympathy are with you.

I played in a community band with Gerry. He was a fine player and rarely missed a rehearsal. His fellow French horn players spoke of his great wit.



Over the past couple of years, the summer concert band would always play a particular number that paid tribute to the men and women who had served in the armed forces. The band conductor always asked members of the audience and band to stand when the tune for their particular branch of the service was played. Gerry served in the Marine Corp and stood when Marine Hymn – From the Halls of Montezuma – was played. Though no longer with us, I’ll remember Gerry by picturing him standing when we play From the Halls this Saturday.

Although I am not family nor a close friend, I knew Jerry for many years. He was a prince of a man....dignified, subtle and humorous.

We are so sorry for your loss. In the hope that these words might provide you some comfort we include this quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson and we commend your success and Jerry's success in this world:

Our love and deepest affection to the Egan Family, especially to Liz and Charley during this most difficult time. Be assured of our fervent prayers for Gerry and for you all.

My heart aches for the Egan family. Jerry has left us with so many wonderful memories, like the time we walked through the Morton Arboretum and he said, "this is just a complete waste of a beautiful golf course". He was a beautiful man who's funny and gentle spirit will be missed.

Jerry was a family friend for as long as I can remember. When I think of Jerry I always smile because he was such a warm and friendly person. I am so sorry for you loss. Your family will be in my prayers.
