Georgia Ann Grymes, 90, of Beaumont, died Monday, October 6, 2025. She will be remembered for her dedication to her faith, her quiet independence, her memorable gifts to family members and friends, love of southern and southwestern food, and appreciation for the performing arts and period drama television and movies.
Born in Houston, Texas, to George W. and Nell Hinson Jones, Georgia Ann was raised in and around the Gulf Coast oil fields where her father worked until his retirement to Sour Lake, Texas. Her cousins remember fondly time well spent with Georgia on the Galveston beaches during her youth. Shortly following high school graduation, she married and served her family as a mother and homemaker. She later became a secretary for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, commuting from her home in Katy, Texas to downtown Houston, daily until her retirement. Following retirement, she moved to Sour Lake, Texas, and then finally settled in Beaumont, Texas.
Those close to Georgia Ann knew she was devoted to her faith in Jesus Christ, most recently as a member of Calvary Baptist in Beaumont, Texas. She was a consistent supporter of both the
Samaritan's Purse, an international humanitarian aid and relief organization, and the online ministry of David Jeremiah.
She found joy behind the camera, documenting trips and special life events through candid photos and meticulously organized albums which her family will cherish as a part of her legacy. She loved to shop, often finding unique gifts appreciated by family and friends due to their quirkiness. During a visit to her home last year, her great grandchildren admired her 1940s wind up alarm clock, curious about the mechanics. The following year, all were gifted replica alarm clocks which they keep in their rooms today.
Georgia Ann always had Bluebell ice cream in her freezer during the summer months, and often a pecan pie in her kitchen during the holiday season, which her grandchildren and great-grandchildren knew well. Her son's favorite Christmas morning breakfast was black coffee and at least one (if not several) pieces of pecan pie. Often, she would make 2 pies for her son's household just to ensure there was enough to go around. Her favorite Sunday dinner was either local tex-mex or southern fried chicken, a tradition her grandchildren will carry forward in her memory.
During her retirement, she introduced her grandchildren to the American theater and works of Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, and Eliza Gatewood Warren through Broadway musical movies, and British and Canadian public television. Marathons of Anne of Green Gables and Masterpiece theater are well remembered as a staple of any overnight stays at "G.G.'s" house.
Georgia Ann will be remembered for her quirky sense of humor. She could often bring herself to hysterical laughter over seemingly ordinary things, a trait passed on to her children and appreciated by her grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Nell Jones of Sour Lake, Texas; daughter, Gay Grymes of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and son, Todd Grymes of Sour Lake, Texas. She is survived by her sister, Nelda Fonville of Houston, Texas; nieces, Joni Byrd and Laura Byrd of Houston, Texas; nephew, Dean Fonville (Jana), of College Station, Texas; granddaughters, Candice Bailey (Andy) of Sour Lake, Texas and Megan Robin (Chris) of Groves, Texas; and great-grandchildren, Nolan, Keegan, Maddox, Lennox, and Drew.
Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 3650 Dowlen Road, Beaumont, Texas 77706 or
Samaritan's Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, North Carolina 28607.
A memorial service for Mrs. Grymes will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 17, 2025, at Broussard's, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. Her cremation arrangements were handled through Broussard's Crematorium.
