George VanValkenburgh Obituary

VanValkenburgh, George T. of Chicago, died on June 29, 2002, at Northwest Community Hospital, Arlington Heights, IL. He is the son of Florence L. and the late George A. He is also survived by his sister, Nancy J. Gier (Edward), three nephews, Geoffrey (Tracey Priola), George (Vickie) and Richard (Donna), two great-nephews, Andrew and Graham and three great-nieces, Healy, Emily and Maryann. Born in 1934, in Marinette, WI, he moved to Northfield, IL, in 1943, graduating from New Trier High School in 1952. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Signal Corps in 1953, serving 16 months in Seoul, Korea, as a radio communciations analyst. On discharge in 1956, he entered Northwestern University's School of Business, graduating with highest honors in June 1960. He spent his working career as a writer/editor, working for two business publishers before joining Illinois Bell's Public Relations Department in 1965. He retired from the Ameritech-Illinois Corporate Communications Department in 1989. No services are planned. Memorial contributions to the anti-cruelty society, 157 W. Grand Ave., Chicago, 60610, would be appreciated, especially by lost, abandoned, abused and otherwise helpless animals. I worked with George at Illinois. He was a consummate professional yet very considerate. A true gentleman when few still exist. My condolences.
