He was born in Mason, N.H., on May 19, 1918, the son of Clarence and Elizabeth (Reardon) King and had resided in Townsend his entire life.
Mr. Sullivan was employed for 27 years as an equipment operator for the state Highway department, retiring in 1983.
He was a communicant of St. John’s Church in Townsend.
Mr. Sullivan served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Force. He was a turret machine gunner operator, participating in 64 bombing missions. Mr. Sullivan received seven air medals and combat awards.
He was a past member of the Townsend Fire department and the VFW of Townsend.
Mr. Sullivan is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, George W. and Nancy Sullivan of Townsend; two grandchildren and their spouses, Jeffrey Sullivan and his wife, Carolyn, of Townsend and Shelly Sullivan Hawke and her husband, Mark, of Gardner; and two great-grandchildren, Celia and Rachael Sullivan of Townsend. He was the husband of Winifred (Greer) Sullivan, who died in December 2000. He was the brother of the late Elizabeth Pederson of Acton.
SULLIVAN -- On July 8, George ‘Bup’ Sullivan, 87, of Townsend. The funeral service will be held Monday, July 11, at 10 a.m. at the T.J. Anderson & Son Funeral Home, 250 Main St., Townsend. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Townsend. Calling hours are Sunday, July 10, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Townsend Firefighters Association Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 910, Townsend, MA 01469.
