George always had his players back. I know, because in 1973 he trusted me to play Leftfield. Whether I hit a triple, or missed a suiceide squeeze, he never lost faith in me. And made me feel like I'd run through a volacano in a gasoline suit for him!

George was a gentle and kind man. We shall always remember his beautiful smile. We have shared many fun times together. His presence will ever be felt in our kitchen, voices mingling in mirthful song, laughter abounding, and silly hats on display. Precious memories of shared friendship remain in our hearts and soothe our souls. Now he is making heaven a better place.

George was such a fine and caring man, a compassionate leader. We deeply regret that it became time for him to move on and know that all of you in the family will hold your many memories of him close.

George was a great colleague and a great leader at Brother Rice. I appreciated his low-key, efficient and friendly style. He made us smile! We will all miss him.

I remember when I first began my teaching career at Brother Rice thirty-one years ago, George was the assistant principal and later became Dean of Students. When George was Dean, students feared going to see "Sedlacek." (I even feared George my first year at BRHS.) When a student did something wrong, I could hear George reprimanding that student all the way down the hall to my classroom, Room 107. When I went to talk to George about a student one time, I heard him speaking to Joan. This was a man who was clearly in love with his wife. I couldn't believe this was the same man. I also remember George sitting in the pew with me for Joe Johnston's funeral services. He was sobbing because he lost a dear friend. I think many of us lost a dear friend with the passing of George, but there are so many wonderful memories we have of George.

I knew George from Br. Rice and without him my high school years would have been very different. George was one of a kind he will be missed.

I worked with dear George...and we mutually respected, appreciated, and loved one another...At my speech of tribute to George when he retired from Brother Rice HS i noted his constancy as a Dean, his strength as a man, his superiority as a coach, and his goodness as a friend...everyone who knew George...his quiet strength, his subtle sensitivities, his unflinching dedication to all that is best in American...in high school manhood...everyone loved and respected and will always remember dear George Sedlacek...with sorrow, appreciation, and affection for a man of unflinching integrity, traditional values, and personal goodness...we are all less for his loss...

I had the privilege and pleasure to play for Coach Sedlacek on the 1965 & '66 teams. The latter squad won the city championship! He was a mentor and leader. RIP, coach.

Dear Joan, Becky, and Family:
I remember writing in 2001 that George cited your marriage in 1974 and your birth in 1975 as the major turning points in his life. I share many thoughts and prayers with you and with more Brother Rice alumni than I can count, in wishing you peace after such a long and considerable struggle. Brother Rice clearly enjoyed the best of George's years, as he was the second of only four men to be inducted into both the school hall of fame and the Alumni Hall of Fame as an Honorary Alumnus.
We remain grateful to you for sharing your husband and father with us.

Joan and Rebecca,
Your husband and father was one of the kindest and finest men with whom I have had the privilege of working. The Brothers at Brother Rice in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, all spoke fondly of him last evening when I conveyed the news about his passing. George's life was devoted to both of you and I am proud that I could call him my friend. We at the Mater Dei Community are praying for the repose of his soul and your consolation.
Sincerely,
Brother Michael S. Segvich, CFC
