George Schaefer Obituary

Dear Schaefer family,
We were saddened to hear of loosing the loved patriarch of your family. I can't imagine how hard it is loosing a father/husband. I hope you find comfort in these days, with remembering fond memories and in being with your family. George, we were friends in highschool (Regina/Loyola)..I'm so sorry about your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time.

Dear Schaefer Family,

I was very saddened to hear about George. He gave me my first real job at Schaefer's and really helped shape me into who I am today. I will never forget his advice, his wisdom, his genorosity and his love for Jimmy Buffett. He was an amazing person.

I work in the Hotel Industry now but I will always remember my time at Schaefer's. God Bless and Take Care.

God Rest to a great man, a great boss, and a great friend

We were very saddened to hear about George's death. Both he and Gene have always been wonderful to our entire family. We appreciate everything that George did for us while working at Schaefers. George will be missed by many! Our prayers are with you all!

George was on our Board of Directors at Harborquest. He was such a delightful human being. He epitomized kindness and good humor. George served our company well, and will be truly missed by us.

I lost my father last year after many years battling cancer, and I am very sorry for your pain. As my family does with our dad, I hope you all will eventually find real comfort in your knowledge of the wonderful legacy George Schaefer created in his lifetime. All over the country, doubtless elsewhere as well, The Schaefer Family will always have "members" who are profoundly grateful for his -- and your -- enormous contributions to our deep appreciation of the monk's art.

A real loss and a true gentleman

Gene, Cookie, and Family,
We were friends with George almost 50 years ago. Sue with George at St. Joan and Jim at Loyola Academy. While at Loyola, Jim lived at 9539 Monticello so our paths were entertwined years ago. Having lived out of Chicago for years we lost touch with George but learned of his passing and were saddened at losing a long lost friend. Our condolences.

Please accept our deepest sympathies on the loss of your brother. George sounds like a wonderful man; you had shared a bit of his struggle with his cancer with me and I so empathize. That he did make it through this last treatment is truly heart breaking. You and all of his family have lost a truly special person and we are so very sorry.

Know that we are thinking of you and wishing you comfort.

Just to let you know how sad I was to hear today about George's having passed away. I will always be grateful to George for allowing me to pursue my wine avocation at Schaefer's, and I will remember fondly the good times I shared with him, with you, and with the rest of my colleagues in the Schaefer's "family."

My husband Tom and I met while working at Schaefer's. We had great times and working for George was a pleasure. Anyone who ever has worked at Schaefer's knew you were part of the "Schaefer Family" and that is what George and Gene made it to be. He was always willing to employ me during college breaks and even later on at Holiday time. Working at Schaefer's was never work with the jovial enviroment and wonderful staff, with George leading us all.
