George Matthews Obituary
Matthews, George J. age 90, a resident of Naperville, IL, formerly of Chicago and Oak Lawn, IL, died Monday, August 2, 2010 at Edward Hospital in Naperville. He was born April 4, 1920 in Chicago. Loving husband of the late Ellen M. (nee Putman) Matthews, whom he married January 3, 1944, beloved father of Barbara (Albert) Rossi, Diane (Thomas) Drennan, David (Diane) Matthews, William (Mary) Matthews, Paul (Lynn) Matthews, and John (Linda) Matthews, adored grandfather of Carolyn (Ken) Shaw, John Rossi, Catherine (Wayne) Eck; Thomas (Heidi) Drennan, Joseph Drennan, Barbara (Chris) Martin, Julie and the late Kevin Drennan; Rachael and Katherine Matthews; Paul, Brad and Rebecca Matthews; Jillian Matthews; Katie, Megan and John Henry Matthews, cherished great-grandfather of Connor and Jordyn Shaw; Halle and Kevin Drennan, devoted son of the late Henry and Barbara Matthews, dear brother of Larry (Terry) Matthews and the late Marie (the late Charles) Kupec, fond uncle of many. George served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was employed as an electrical engineer at Commonwealth Edison for 40 years. Family and friends will meet Wednesday, August 4th for a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 1500 Brookdale Rd., Naperville. Private Interment at St. Mary Cemetery, Evergreen Park, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials to: Misericordia, 6300 North Ridge, Chicago, IL 60660, 773-973-6300. Dear Matthews Family,
Please accept my sincere condolences on the death of your father. I remember him well doing many activities with the scouts at St. Kilians How lucky he was to enjoy both grandchildren and great grandchildren. I know you will be sharing many memories at this time. I will keep you all in my prayers.
