George Hensley Obituary

Hensley, George Roger

It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of George Roger Hensley on November 11, 2020. George Roger Hensley was born on June 6, 1938 in Chicago, Illinois to Marjorie (nee Stokes) and George Albert Hensley. He was the eldest of four brothers. Richard (deceased), Ross (deceased), and Reid. George was preceded in death by his late and beloved wife Donna Mae Hensley (nee Sanders) formerly Lynch. Following in his father's footsteps, George became a City of Chicago Fireman in 1970. He spent most of his career at the former Engine Co. 61 on 5349 S. Wabash Ave. He was a 49-year member of the Firefighters Union Local #2, and a proud member of the Brotherhood of the Barrel. For his distinguished service and acts of bravery he was the recipient of the Medal of Valor award. George retired from the department in 2000 after thirty years of service. George R. Hensley's life and legacy will continue to live on beyond the eighty-two years he spent on this earth. He was a devoted father to his children Renea Garza, Rory Hensley, Robin Hensley (deceased), Rita McGlothlin, Reese Hensley, and Daniel Lynch. He is survived by his former wife Eleanor Hensley-Roche. Of all his accomplishments George was most proud to have lived to become not just a great-grandfather, but a great-great-grandfather to fifty-one beautiful grandchildren. A celebration of life service will be held June 6 Sunday at 11:30 am 115 Bourbon Street 3359 W. 115th st., Merrionette Park, IL, 60803
