He was one of the most inspiring teachers I had. Mr. Apostolopoulos knew how to engage his students on a very personal level. Mr. A, as we called him, also taught me a lot about patriotism and never once brought up some centuries old wars our two countries fought, though he tactfully pointed out that my country made the wrong choice in WWII. He was, of course, right.

"To conceive of the complex numbers takes a flight of God's imagination!" - George Apostolopoulos

He is missed by many, may The Lord grant him peace.

Today I was just thinking on the way to a DeVry gathering for the latest layoff victims, I haven't heard from George in a while; I've got to call him. I heard from one of the other former professors that George had died. I'm so sorry to hear this. We used to commute together in my car and occasionally get together socially. He radiated such energy, warmth and concern, above all for his children.

Mr. A's passing brings sadness to my heart. He shared a cubicle with me for many years at DeVry University.

He often offered me candy, shared a heart warming story, and expressed how much he loved and respected his sons.

Mr. A spent hours tutoring students who struggled with math, and always took time to listen to the stories and concerns of others. He lived a life at the university that represented great integrity and respect for every one who he tutored, taught and worked!

Most of all I truly enjoyed listening to his stories that were laced with positive life experiences and exceptional wisdom.

Mr. A was the single most inspiring teacher I ever had. He always talked about his kids and how proud he was of them. Just wanted to make sure you guys know that.

Dear John and Nick,

I can only repeat much of what Colleen Vaughan said about your dad. He was so proud of you both and proud about everything Greek. He always asked how I was doing and always cared about you both, "his" students, and his colleagues. I am so sorry about your loss. Know that he is now in a much, much better place!

Dear Family Members,
I taught with Mr.A, as we called him, at DeVry University in Addison, IL for many years. He was such as passionate person about his students and the teaching of mathematics. He was also such a thoughtful and kind person who always had a greeting for everyone and a smile on his face (and sometimes a very small cup of very strong coffee in his hand!) We have such very warm memories of him. My sympathy to all of you on your loss.

Dear John and Nick,

I just heard of your Dad's passing this morning. At DeVry, we called him Professor A and I worked with him for many years at the Addison Campus.

Please know that we still think about your Dad and share stories of him with our colleagues who did not have the privilege of working with him.
He was so very generous, always interesting and cared deeply about his students. I still smile and think of him when someone says a word, sporting event or whatever originated in Greece. According to your Dad, EVERYTHING had its origins in Greece!

Must of all, I remember how very proud he was of his sons!

My sincere condolences,
Colleen Vaughan
