Watt, Garland W. The Honorable Garland W. Watt, 80, retired judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County, first African American selected by appointment to fill a Circuit Court vacancy by the Illinois Supreme Court in the history of Illinois. Proud member of Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, the Royal Coterie of Snakes, the Chicago Assembly and the Union League Club of Chicago. Survived by wife Gwendolyn (Canada), daughter Marsha. Body will lie in state Thursday, January 31, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Unity Funeral Parlors, Inc., 4114 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago IL 60653. Funeral Friday, February 1, 2013. Wake at 1:30 p.m. Services at 2:30 p.m. at The Congregational Church of Park Manor, 7000 S. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Chicago IL 60619. Interment Saturday, February 2, 2013, 9:00 a.m. Oak Woods Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, send donations "in Memory of Garland Watt" to The Chicago Assembly Foundation, P.O. Box 19438, Chicago IL 60619 or Ada S. McKinley Community Services, Inc.-Chicago, 1359 W. Washington Blvd., Chicago IL 60607-1905
