I remember Freddy (that's what my parents called him) made up a batch of my Dad's all-purpose ointment that he had concocted early on in his practice, and labeled each jar of it "Dr Cohen's Miracle Ointment". My parents were so touched by this, and never forgot it. I still have some of the jars - that stuff is indestructible! An ointment for the ages!

Fred was a truly kind and gentle man. I met him as a pharmacy student -- he was a great wit and had a great sense of humor. I remember taking a test he gave on pharmacy abbreviations. The official correct answer for FPS was "feet per second" but you also got credit for "Fred P. Siegel." Later we became friends and published together and I visited him at his home after he retired. He once acted as one of my expert witnesses on behalf of a dentist I was defending and when asked on the witness stand whether he considered Remington's Pharmaceutical Science an authoritative textbook, he replied: "I should. I wrote part of it." I won't forget Fred.

Dr. Siegel was one of favorite professors at the U of I, College of Pharmacy in the early 60's. I loved his lectures and compounding labs. He could always put things in perspective. Always the consumate professional with a tongue in cheek sense of humor. I learned a lot from him.
