Frank Sowa Obituary
Sowa Sr., Frank S. "Link" loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away November 14, 2008 at his son's home in San Diego, California. Born August 21, 1923 Frank grew up, married, and raised his family on the northwest side of Chicago, IL. Except for his time in military service and the last two years in San Diego, Frank was always a Chicagoan. Frank was a decorated WWII veteran with the 82nd Airborne, 504 Regiment, Headquarters Co, 3rd Battalion, and a past Commander of AMVETS Post #34. He retired from the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad after 32 plus years of service, and is a former owner of Owl Luggage. He moved to San Diego in June 2006 to be closer to his children and grandchildren. His wife, Lorraine, preceded Frank in death. Frank is survived by his son Frank Jr. and wife Gail; son Robert and wife Julie; daughter Lauritta Sowa-Matson and husband Rick; five grandchildren Michael, Nicholas, Catherine, Alexander, and Lauren, brother Chester, sisters Florence and Sophie. Frank will be laid to rest at Riverside National cemetery in Riverside, California. Donations in Frank's name made to Odyssey Hospice San Diego or AMVETS would be appreciated.

I attended grammer school with his son Bob. I remember them as being one of the friendliest families in the neibborhood. I was always welcome. I extend my condolances to him & his family.

I was very sorry to hear of Frank's passing. He was always a good neighbor on Central Park. Frank always talked about how proud he was of his children and grandchildren, and was happy when he could visit with them. My deepest sympathy to you and your family.

As Pastor of Mission Basilica San Diego de Alcalá, where his Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday, November 21st, I write on behalf of our entire parish community in extending our sincere condolences and assurances of prayers for Frank S. Sowa, Sr., and for all of his family members as they mourn his loss. "May the angels lead him into Paradise... May the choirs of angels welcome him... May he find eternal rest."
