Frank Gardner was my uncle's best friend growing up in Chicago. They both served in the 92nd Infantry Division that fought in Italy, the only African-American infantry division during World War II. They were called the the "Buffalo Soldiers". Frank Gardner was a great man and lived his life to the fullest. I had the honor of spending some time with him, and he shared some of his experiences during the war and told me about my uncle, Sgt. Lawrence Vernon Blanchet, who was killed on Feb. 10th 1945. They were best friends then and now they are together again. My condolences go out the Gardner family.

To the family of Dr. Gardner, I am sorry for your loss. Dr, Gardner helped me during the 1960's. Again, at the J.N. Thorp School on the East side of Chicago. I would see Dr. Gardner jogging in Coles park for some years. God bless and keep you all. Christine Ogilvie, Bossier City, Louisiana.

As we both had long careers in the Chicago Public Schools, I crossed paths with Frank Gardner on numerous occasions. He was always professional, gracious, intelligent, knowledgable and, most importantly, helpful. I was most pleased when he agreed to serve as the graduation speaker one year at my school (Gladstone Elementary). Frank Gardner made his mark in Chicago by all the people he touched over the years, and he will truly be missed. Rest in peace, Frank.
