Frances Low Obituary

LOW, FRANCES LARRABEE, of Stimson Avenue died August 12th at Rhode Island Hospital. She was 79 and a longtime resident of Providence and neighboring Bristol.

Mrs. Lows parents were Charles F. and Mary B. Larrabee, of Bellingham, Washington.

She attended the Bush School in Seattle and graduated in 1950 from Smith College. She married William G. Low, Jr. in 1953; he predeceased her in 1986. She worked for the Experiment in International Education in New York City and was later employed for many years at the John Carter Brown Library of Brown University. She retired in 2006.

A skiing enthusiast from her childhood years at Mt. Baker, Mrs. Lows love of winter sports and the Northwest remained unabated. She served on the board of directors of Planned Parenthood of Rhode Island and was a member of the Wednesday Club of Providence. She was a supporter of environmental and historic preservation organizations and the arts.

She is survived by her four sons, David of Philadelphia, Gilman of Langley, Washington, William of Auburn, Maine, Abbot of Santa Cruz, California, four grandchildren, and her brother, C.X. Larrabee of Durham, North Carolina. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 18th at 1pm at St. Michaels Church, Bristol, Rhode Island. Donations may be sent to Planned Parenthood of Rhode Island, 111 Point Street, Providence, RI 02903.
