Kansas City, Missouri - Eva (Evon) Festyn Thomas Clevenger was born 12/20/1929 in Elmvale, Ontario, Canada, daughter of Rev. Evan and Velma Lawless Thomas. She was a 1947 graduate of East High School in Kansas City, attended Maple Woods and William Jewell colleges and retired after 30 years with the Metropolitan Community Colleges.
Evon was preceded in death by husband of 37 years, Thomas Dean, her mother, father, stepfather Stan, sister Deryn, brother Ron, and sister Cheryl. She is survived by her daughter, Eva Dawn of Kansas City, and granddaughter Rachel Hockensmith of Branson Missouri; son Rex and wife Barbara of Mesa Arizona; son Craig of Miami, Florida and grandchildren Anthony, Christian and Kelly of Miami Florida; and her dear friend and companion Larry Perry of Kansas City.
Evon and her husband were single engine airplane pilots and owned an Aeronica airplane in the 1950s. She was a golfer and avid bridge player. Evon shared travelogues of her favorite destinations, including Antarctica, the polar bear capital of the world in Churchill Manitoba Canada, the Iguazu Falls in Brazil, the Inca ruins in Machu Picchu Peru and the Mayan ruins in Chichen Itza Mexico.
Evon was a member of the Fairview Christian Church in Gladstone Missouri where she was the first woman Chairman of the Board, Chairman of the Elders, Elder Emeritus and Trustee. She served as president of the Guild Women's Group, Christian Education & Mission committees and vice president of Christian Women's Fellowship. She directed youth dinner theaters and her passion was the fall "Festival of Sharing" in Sedalia Missouri and food boxes for the Food Pantry.
Her body was donated to KU Medical Center. In lieu of a memorial service, Evon requests that you spend that time helping a child, helping a senior citizen or take a food box to your local food pantry.
