Everett Browne Obituary

SMITHFIELD - CMSgt Everett Smedley 'Brownie' Browne, U.S. Air Force, retired, age 86, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005, in Obici Hospital. He was a native of Wilmington, Del. He was a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served during World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. During World War II, he crewed 817 hours in B-17's and then crewed 14, 800 hours in B-29's and B-50's on various missions including testing Loran and Navigating systems over the North Pole. After retiring from the Air Force, he worked 20 years at NASA working on such projects as the Lunar Lander and as a test car driver for diagonal braking systems before retiring in 1982. He was a member of the Smithfield Masonic Lodge and was very active as a Boy Scout Leader for many years. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Grace Browne; two sons, Tom Brown and his wife, Sharon, and Tim Brown and his fiancée, Wendy; five grandchildren, Tom Brown II, Michelle Brown-Gastreich, Timothy S. Brown, Spencer Snyder and Ashley Thompson; three great-grandchildren, Nicole Brown, Alec Gastreich and Savannah Gastreich. A graveside service with Masonic and Military Rites will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7, at St. Luke's Memorial Park, Smithfield, with Dr. Donald R. Rhoton officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, in Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield.
