Ermadyne SMITH Obituary

SMITH, Ermadyne (85) Died at her Almira, Washington home of heart failure on March 30, 2013. The daughter of Matthew and Edna Hagerty, she was born January 28, 1928 in Tieton, Washington, where she grew up and graduated high school. On May Day of 1949 Ermadyne married Clarence Smith in Tieton, Washington where together they worked their 40 acres of fruit orchards. In 1967 she moved with her family to Almira, Washington where Ermadyne worked in the office of the Almira School District Superintendent for 21 years. A member of the Almira Community Church, where she was known by many for her sense of humor, Ermadyne loved road trip adventures with Clarence in their motor home, eventually traveling to every state west of the Mississippi. What Ermadyne's family often remembers most about their wonderful wife and mother was her love for each of them and the "good home comfort foods" which came from her kitchen...clam chowder made with clams they dug in Copalis, WA, Mexican food, fruit cobblers and too many others to list. Predeceased by her sisters: Margaret Stillwaugh and Leona French; Ermadyne's legacy lives on through Clarence - her beloved husband of almost 64 years; their two sons: Roger Smith of Portland, Oregon and Brad Smith of Spokane Valley, Washington as well as numerous nephews and nieces. At Ermadyne's request cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will take place at Almira Community Church in Almira, Washington on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 11:00AM. A private family inurnment will take place at Almira City Cemetery. Ermadyne's family requests that any donations be made in her memory to "Almira Community Church, PO Box 157 / 101 South 2nd, Almira, WA 99103. STRATE FUNERAL HOME is honored to be serving Ermadyne's family. All are encouraged to sign Ermadyne's online register book at www.stratefuneralhome.com.

Clarence and Ermadyne were always in my life as I grew up in Tieton. They were friends of my parents and later became friends of Leon and I;visiting us on the Oregon Coast when they were coming or going on one of their road trips. I am thankful she was in my life. Clarence, Roger and Brad, you know those three sisters and Grandma Hagerty are having a wonderful time tonight. Ermadyne will be missed and always remembered. May God take your sorrow away and leave you with peace.

The world lost a real saint with the passing of Ermadyne. She was loving, tenderhearted, humorous, always thinking of others and a strong Christian. There is no doubt where she is right now - walking on the Golden Streets of Heaven. She will be greatly missed. Our condolences to Clarence, Roger and Brad. Ed & Debbie Wagnild
