Emily Brown Obituary

Ms. Emily Yvonne Brown of 401 Williamsdale Drive, Richmond, entered into eternal rest Sunday, March 9, at her residence. She was the daughter of the late James and Nellie Washington Brown.

Emily was a retired executive housekeeper at Williams Mullens Law Firm in Richmond. She also worked as an executive housekeeper at Investors Bank in Richmond. She was a former employee of John Randolph Medical Center in Hopewell, and Petersburg Training School and Hospital.

She was educated in Hopewell and a 1957 graduate of Carter Woodson High School. She was a very vibrant and compassionate individual who loved God, people and life. She also left a piece of herself with every individual who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her nurturing and mothering extended well beyond her own child. The door of her heart and home were always open. Emily joined Friendship Baptist Church at an early age, and attended occasionally or whenever her health allowed.

She leaves to cherish her memory: a devoted daughter, Felicia Y. Brown, and dedicated companion Leroy Thomas, both of Richmond; one cousin, Nellie Gholson of Hopewell; and a host of family and friends, among them, a faithful friend, Marion Brown of Burkeville.

Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, March 15, at Friendship Baptist Church in Hopewell, the Rev. Collin Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Appomattox Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the William N. Bland and Son Funeral Home, Petersburg, www.blandenterprisesinc.com.

Felicia, Honey I know you lost a wonderful Mother and your best friend. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Your Mom was a wonderful friend to me. When I was sick and in the hospital she even made me chicken soup to get me well. I sure wish I had gotten that special recipe. Jim and I send our love to you.

Felicia and Leroy: Auntie Em always talked about you. She was a joy to work with. She and I would always "smack" each other in the face and say, "She is harassing me!" You are in my prayers. I know Auntie Em is in heaven looking down on all of us and smiling. She has really been missed at Williams Mullen.

Emily was such a joy to know and see at Wiliams Mullen. What a sense of humor she had! She was greatly missed when she retired. She will be missed by all, but am sure she is at peace now. Heaven must be a little rowdy this week!

To Felicia: Whenever your mother spoke the name Felicia here at Williams Mullen, her eyes sparkled as she was filled with pride, and always joy, in her very special daughter. It was obvious to those of us here, that she loved you very much. My prayers and deepest sympathy are with you and your family during this difficult time.

To Auntie Em: I love you and miss the joy that you brought not just to me, but to all of us.

I got news announcing the passing of Ms. Emily from 4 different sources on Monday morning 3/12/08. It was a total shock. Emily & I were "partners in crime". During lunch hours, we visited Costco to sample food for free, we often visited Home Depot, Garden Ridge, or we ate wonton soup every day for weeks and she never complained. Emily was always a "SOUP PERSON", she enjoyed her soup when it was 100 or 20 degrees outside. Ms. Emily Brown always has a special place in my heart. You are in my prayers, Emily.

To Emily's Family:
Do not stand at my grave and weep;
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow;
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain;
I am the gentle autumn's rain.
When you awaken in the mornings hush, I am the swift uplifting rush
of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there; I did not die.

To Emily:
I hope you know how much I loved you and how much joy and laughter you brought to me and MANY others at Williams Mullen. I am blessed that our paths crossed in this life on earth. I'll be talking with you in my prayers, Emily. God bless you.
Love, Nancy

I was very saddened to learned about Emily’s passing. After reflecting back on the time spent with Emily, I remember that she was always encouraging me to stand up for myself and do what is right in life. You are an angle Emily.

I am so sorry to learn of Miss Emily's death. She was a well-loved person who brought much wisdom and laughter to those around her. She will be greatly missed by all those who had the great pleasure of knowing her, but Heaven has gained another shining star.

To Felicia, Leroy, and the immediate family: I am so sorry for your loss. Emily was unlike anyone I've ever met. She was truly an angel on borrowed time from heaven, and I guess it was just her time to be called back home.

To Emily: Some people pass through your life and just leave an impression on you, but others are so special they actually become a part of you. You have been a part of me ever since we met. While you've left this life for a better one, I will always carry you with me in my heart. Words cannot accurately convey how much I love you.

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

Psalm 23
1The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

2He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

3He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

4Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

5Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

6Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
AMEN...

Peace my "Precious, Precious" lovey(soul) MS EMILY

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

Warm Summer Sun

Warm summer sun,
Shine kindly here,
Warm southern wind,
Blow softly here.
Green sod above,
Lie light, lie light.
Good night, dear heart,
Good night, good night.

Music, when soft voices die

Music, when soft voices die,
Vibrates in the memory—
Odours, when sweet violets sicken,
Live within the sense they quicken.

Rose leaves, when the rose is dead,
Are heaped for the belovèd's bed;
And so thy thoughts, when thou art gone,
Love itself shall slumber on.

Crossing the Bar

Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,

But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
Turns again home.

Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark;

For tho' from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crost the bar.

Death, be not proud

Death, be not proud, though some have called thee
Mighty and dreadful, for thou art not so;
For those whom thou think'st thou dost overthrow
Die not, poor Death, nor yet canst thou kill me.
From rest and sleep, which but thy pictures be,
Much pleasure; then from thee much more must flow,
And soonest our best men with thee do go,
Rest of their bones, and soul's delivery.
Thou art slave to fate, chance, kings, and desperate men,
And dost with poison, war, and sickness dwell,
And poppy or charms can make us sleep as well
And better than thy stroke; why swell'st thou then?
One short sleep past, we wake eternally
And death shall be no more; Death, thou shalt die.

God Saw You

God saw you getting tired,
When a cure was not to be.
So He wrapped his arms around you,
and whispered, "Come to me".
You didn't deserve what you went through,
So He gave you rest.
God's garden must be beautiful,
He only takes the best
And when I saw you sleeping,
So peaceful and free from pain
I could not wish you back
To suffer that again.

If tears could build a stairway
And memories were a lane,
I would walk right up to heaven
To bring you home again.
No farewell words were spoken.
No time to say good-bye.
You were gone before we knew it,
And only God knows why.
My heart still aches in sadness
And secret tears still flow.
What it meant to lose you,
No one will ever know.

Remember

Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you plann'd:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.
