Dato, Elvira (nee Cairo), 98; beloved wife of the late Joseph; loving mother of the late Rosemary; dear grandmother of Diane (Tom) Nissen, Debra Di Maggio, and John (Susan) Di Maggio; wonderful great grandmother to Alexandra and Madeline Nissen and Lindsey and Vincent Di Maggio. She passed quietly in her home on Feb. 2, 2011. Elvira was born on June 20, 1912 in Italy, emigrated to Chicago in 1921, where she lived for more than 70 years until moving to California. She worked as a seamstress for 50 years, endured the Depression and was a fantastic cook. She will live forever in our hearts and will be remembered for her strength, passion and great love of family. Private service will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery in Chicago. Diane, Debra, and Johnny: Although I only knew you when you were children, your mom and grandmother played important parts in my life as a child. In my phone conversations with your grandmother these past few years, she sounded EXACTLY as I remember her. My deepest sympathies to all.
