Your Woman Hollering Creek was a great source of comfort, laughter and validation for my mother when she was going through a difficult time. I felt many times when reading your work that I was reading autobiographical events- you have mastered the art of combining sorrow and joy to produce beautiful literature that our community was missing for so long. Your mother must have been very proud of you. I know she must have been an inspiration for a lot of your work. I am so sorry to hear of her passing. I know that you will find peace in many cherished memories and that even in death your mother will continue to inspire you and have a positive impact on your life. May God bless you and your family during this difficult time.

I also do not know you but wanted to offer you my sympathy and prayers. I lived on Mango Street when I was growing up and my daughter remembered me telling her that at one time, so she sent me your book which I very much enjoyed.

Ms Cisneros (Sandra), you do not know me but your writings have meant so much to me and when I read that your mother passed on to the other side, I wanted to give you my sympathy. I imagine that you gave your mother great joy, as did your siblings, by accomplishing so much and by giving to the community here in San Anto. Know that your mama is at peace and has began her journey.
Be Well.
