Not sure what to say?

October 5, 2004

Ellyn Cronin touched the lives of many and was very proud of her family, her friends, and all the people she touched through her role as a Patient Advocate at Little Company of Mary Hospital. By showing us how special we are she showed us how special and caring she was...

Ellyn will live on in our memories as a strong and vibrant woman who was always willing to take life on no matter how challenging the circumstances. She was a never-ending source of kindness, information, resourcefulness, empathy and tough love. Our memories of her will continue to be a source of comfort and inspiration.

Our thoughts, prayers and condolences go out to Ellyn's family. Your mom, daughter, sister and aunt made an indelible mark on the lives of many. May you, too, fiind comfort in your memories of her.

Ellyn was an inspiration to all of us. She focused not on herself, but on making life better for others. When she accepted the Spirit of Life Award at our Cancer Support Center Gala this year, we were all so proud to have her share her story.

Her legacy lives in the lives of cancer patients and their families throughout Chicago. Her zest for life still can be felt in the hearts and minds of those who loved her. We all will miss her, but know her good work will live on.

Thank you for sharing your very special Ellyn with all of us. Please know you are in our thoughts at this difficult time.

Dear Cronin Family,

Megan and Emily, you may not remember this occasion, but it is how I will always remember Ellyn (and you both). I have a picture in my head of the three of you on my doorstep, great big grins on your faces. I was going through treatment and you dropped by our home one evening with a collection of oral care products. You didn't stay long, but you were upbeat and cheerful and I was delighted that you came by.

We who were touched by Ellyn are blessed to have known her. She was amazing. Our condolences are offered to you - her amazing family.

Please accept my deepest sympathy. I didn't know Ellyn, but I am sure she was a vital member of your family and that you will miss her. I believe your love for one another will help you bear your profound loss. And Ellyn's spirit will remain with you, loving all of you and guiding her children as she always has. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

On behalf of the Cronin family, thank you for your heartfelt expressions of grief and support.

I have one story about Ellyn to relate. When her youngest, Megan, was born, Dad was ill and housebound. So on her way home from the hospital with her new baby, Ellyn made a stop at my parents house so Dad could see and hold and bless his newest grandchild.

My sister had style. She will be remembered and missed always.

I wanted to tell you that I am so sorry for your loss, Ellyn Cronin was an incredible lady and embodied the strength of the Cronin family. The times that I found myself in her presence along with her mother not only gave me a sense of empowerment but to see them together you knew they could conquer anything. Although she has gone on to a better place, just knowing her made me realize how wonderful the world is and to appreciate everyday. I will keep you all in my prayers.

Dear Aunt Pat, Sheila, Patsy, Emily, Jimmy, Michael, Noonie, John, Doc and Joe,

My thoughts and prayers are with you now, as they have been since hearing of Ellyn's illness. Most of all, I am consumed with memories of the fabulous times I spent with you over the years, both in California and in Chicago! My first visit, when Botch and I drove cross-country with Uncle Chuck, we shared a lovely evening at the South Shore Country Club...need I say more about that evening?? My last visit, in October of 1998, I brought my family to Chicago to meet Aunt Pat and their second cousins. Each time I visited I left with the same impression of Ellyn - sweet, humorous, caring, loyal. When we last visited, I could see all of those qualities in her children, particularly Emily, who carried my 7-month old son around ALL DAY, and at 30 lbs., that's saying something!

Please find comfort knowing Ellyn is enjoying everlasting life with God in heaven. Plus, Uncle Jim and Dad now have her sparkling wit and charm to enhance eternity.

Love always,

"B"

Emily, Sheila and family,

I was so sorry to learn of your sisters' passing. If she had half the spirit and humor that you two share, there is no doubt in my mind she was an amazing woman. Please accept my sincere condolances. I hope that the memories of good times spent together are a comfort to you and your family at this time.

The death of a young, vibrant, necessary person will never make sense. Ellyn both acknowledged this and transcended it, perhaps a particularly elegant manifestation of her deep love for her children, family and friends. The wise among us will learn from her incredible dignity and grace.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family members and friends who held her close throughout her illness. Your lesson is equally meaningful.
