Ellen Jordan Obituary

To the Jordan Family, especially Frank and the girls . . .

I was just reading a Retired Teachers' Newsletter and saw the remembrance which Rita submitted. I was totally surprised to know that my dear friend and mentor had passed away. The years I spent working with her had an impact on my life which challenged me beyond measure. Much of my ultimate success was due in great part to her nurturing and encouraging. She will be greatly missed but I have so many fond memories of her to refer to. And, as I always do, I will pull out the many notes that she gave me and reread them as I am reminded of the exceptional woman, coworker and "boss" that she was.

Dear Jordan Family,

I went to high school with Ellen and admired her very much. She was energetic, hard-working, outgoing and fun to be with. She will be missed by many. My thoughs and prayers are with the Jordan family.

My deepist sympathies to the Jordan family. Albeit my time in Ellen's life was rather brief, I was deeply touched by her warmth and tenderness; I certainly also enjoyed her stories and sense of humor. Ellen, you will be missed.

Living next door to Maura and Brendan for 6 years gave my family many interactions with Mrs. Jordan.

She will be remembered with thoughts of class and dignity. Her love for her family was evident in her every word.

I wish to express my profound sympathy to the Jordan family. Your grief is shared by many.

I am simply without adequate words of comfort to Mr. Jordan, Ellen, Kathy, Maura and rest of the Jordan family on the death of their dear wife and mother, Ellen. Please know that Dr. Jordan was an inspiration and expert mentor to me and many others in the teaching profession. All who had the joy of knowing her were blessed. She was a truly thoughtful individual, generous with her time and knowledge. She will always hold a special place in my heart, as she will in the thousands of students, teachers and others she has touched with her wisdom, benevolence and kindness. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

Ellen Jordan was not only “classy”, she was classic. She had extraordinary style and elegance, combined with irrepressible humor and spirited enthusiasm. Her vivid personality enhanced a first class intellect and a bracing professionalism.

“Moxie” should have been her middle name. Her love of life and language was evidenced by her pithy comments. When challenged, she did not season her speech with the condiment of fancy. What was in her heart was on her tongue. If you were in for a “row or a ruckus” just “tread on the tail of her coat”.

Ellen earnestly believed, and practiced, that those to whom much had been given have the responsibility to return the gift tenfold. She lived by this creed. Her generosity was matched by her love and loyalty to family and friends. She did her family proud.

When you live in the hearts of those you loved, you are never gone. Although you will be missed, you are with us still.

I have known Ellen for many years as we were members of the Council for Exceptional Children together. She was a wonderful person, a great worker and a great advocate for hanidicapped children. We shall all miss her.

Ellen was a fine person who has a terrific family who will miss her very much. We pray that the fond memories we have will sustain us through this time of sorrow!
