Dr. Elizabeth Ann Peterson, Ed. D.:
It is with great gratitude and humility that I dedicate my Doctoral Dissertation to Dr. Elizabeth Ann Peterson, my friend, my mentor, and my Dissertation Primary Advisor. I will always remember our three Summer Institutes at Lake Geneva where she worked tirelessly with me, providing council I didn’t even know I needed. She challenged me to open my soul to the past and encouraged me to follow the military education theme in my study. For the almost four years we collaborated, she was steadfast in keeping me on course to make my Dissertation the best it could be.
Elizabeth continued to work with me even though most of us did not know that she was silently losing her battle with cancer. She was a very private and gracious lady that didn’t want to burden anyone with her problems or her pain, so she suffered in silence.
She was a tremendous leader in Adult Education that will be missed every day. Her positive impact on me and her other adult students will always influence who we are. Because she graced us with her presence, she left this world a better place and taught us all a valuable lesson in personal humility. She made a difference!

I am deeply saddened to hear of Elizabeth's passing. I am a former graduate student of hers when she taught at USC in Columbia, SC. She was an amazing teacher who made each student feel special, and I am a better person for knowing her. She touched many lives in a very positive and caring way. Please accept my deepest condolences.

I am lucky to say that I've had Dr. Peterson as an instructor. She was one of my favorites as she challenged me in each of her classes. She will be greatly missed.
My thoughts are with her family during this extremely difficult time.
