Elizabeth Hall Obituary

Hall, Elizabeth Compher Passed away March 18, 2016 with her son by her side. Memorial: 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Terrace. Elizabeth was born May 17, 1925 in Chicago, IL. In 1957, she and her son moved back to Chicago where she started her 30-year school nursing career at Carl Sandburg High School in Orland Park, IL retiring from Homewood Flossmore High School. Elizabeth was first married to Arthur M. Compher where she supported him through Medical School and residency. Elizabeth was drawn to nursing during World War II when she became aware of the great need for medical care for the wounded. She graduated from Roosevelt University in Chicago with certification to be a school nurse. She was instrumental in forming the Illinois School Nursing Association, which established the educational standards and increased benefits for school nurses. She completed two masters degrees in nursing and public health. Elizabeth married Henry "Tom" Thomas Hall in 1972 where they shared extended winter vacations in Arizona and sailing trips around the Virgin Islands. After Tom's death, she moved to Trinity Terrace in Fort Worth to be closer to her son. She will be remembered for her devotion to family, love of education, her intelligence, political acumen and adventurous spirit. She loved nursing, school nursing, as well as nursing at the Camp Kawanhee in Maine. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Thomas Hall; parents, Fanny and Robert Kraft; and siblings, Charles and Florence. Survived by her son, Charles Compher, Sr. and wife, Barbara, of Fort Worth; grandsons, Charles Compher, Jr. and wife, Jill of North Richland Hills; Robert Compher and wife, Katy of Spanish Fort, AL; and Michael Compher and wife, Ann of Highland Park, IL.; Tom's four children, Patricia, Doug, Richard and Susan; six great-grandchildren, Claire, Matthew, Lucy, Jacob, Luke and Charlie; numerous loving cousins. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Illinois Association of School Nurses iasn.org/donate.
