I knew Commader Blumenthal for almost 20 years. Being actively involved in the Jewish Community, there were a number of occasions when he accomplished much through his role with the Chicago Police Department to help worthwhile people and Jewish institutions in need, who otherwise would have been out of luck.
On his days off, he regularly drove my Uncle Rabbi Kalman Barkin, o'h, to aid him in his work for Slabodker Yeshiva in Bnei Brak, Israel.
He was a wonderful man and he will be missed.
My sincere condolences to the entire family,

My deepest sympathy to the Blumenthal family on the loss of their beloved father, grandfather, and best friend,Eli. Commander Blumenthal established a heritage for his children and grand children, as an honorable public servant, with more than fifty years in the criminal justice system. His Law enforcement career began in the mid 1940's on the Cook County Sheriffs Police Dept, ending in the late 1990's as a Commander with the Chicago Police Dept.
I have known Eli over 60 years, and have watched him develop from a posistion as a line officer to the posistion of Commander,in which he retired. Eli was an inspiration to those who followed him, he will be missed by his many friends and colleagues. My deep condolences and prayers to the Blumenthal family, may his soul rest in peace.

Please accept my sympathy on the loss of Eli. Eli was one of my father's drivers in the 1940's when my father was the Coroner, so I've known Eli since I was a teenager. May Eli rest in peace in heaven. Amen
