Badger Jr., The Rev. Edwin Hunt age 88, of Chillicothe, OH, died Monday, April 25th, in Chillicothe, OH, after an illness of several months. He was born May 27, 1916, in Evanston, IL, the son of Edwin Hunt Badger and Helen Jesse (Pope) Badger. He was a fifth generation Chicagoan. He graduated from New Trier High School in Winnetka, IL and the University of Chicago in 1940 with a Bachelor of Arts. He was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He inlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942 and retired as a major in 1946. During his military service he spent 22 months in the Western Pacific combat area including landing on Iwo Jima on the fifth day of the battle. He graduated from Seabury-Western Seminary with a Bachelor's Degree in Divinity in 1950 and was ordained as a priest in the Episcopal Church. During his ministry with the Diocese of Chicago, he served as Priest-in-Charge and Rector at St. Giles Church in Northbrook, IL from 1950 to 1966 as well as a number of diocesan committees, boards and councils. He attended Indiana University and received his Masters in Adult Education in 1967, his Masters in Political Science in 1968, and his Doctorate in Education and Political Science in 1969. He was Dean of Ohio University's Chillicothe campus from 1969 to 1981. After retiring, he continued as a supply priest at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Chillicothe and other parishes in the Diocese of Southern Ohio. Fr. Badger was a lifelong supporter of the Boy Scouts of America. He attained the rank of Eagle Scout and was presented with the Silver Beaver Award for his service to the Chief Logan Council. He was a strong member and supporter of the Chillicothe Rotary Club and Rotary Internationsl with whom he became a Paul Harris Fellow. His hobbies included British history and travel, wildlife preservation (with special emphasis on the restoration of the wolf) environmental studies, classical music and railroads. Fr. Badger is survived by his wife, Virginia Ann (Curtis); his son, Thomas Michael Badger; his daughter, Mary Janet Beladi; his step-daughters, Leslye Winslow and Nancy Winslow; his grandchildren, Cyrus, Bijan and Aram Beladi; his sister, Mary Frances (the late David) Bridewell; and his brother, Samuel Cowles (Anne) Badger; and his numerous step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Services will be held at St. Elisabeth Episcopal Church, 556 Vernon Ave., in Glencoe, IL on Saturday, May 14th, at 4 p.m. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Chicago, IL. Please omit flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 33 E. Main St., the Simon Kenton Council of the Boy Scouts of America, 991 E.
