Edward VanQuathem Obituary

Funeral services for Edward A. VanQuathem, 69, Moline, are 9 a.m. Monday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline. Burial is in Moline Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation is 3-6 p.m. Sunday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Memorials may be made to Christ the King Church. He died Friday, Oct. 1, 2004, at Illini Hospital, Silvis, Ill.
Ed was born March 18, 1935, in Moline, the son of Arthur C. and Elizabeth (Licko) VanQuathem. Ed served as an MP in the U.S. Army. He married Karen Carlson, Dec. 6, 1969, in East Moline. He retired in 1985 as an expediter after 32 years with American Air Filter. He also did sport broadcasting for WOC and KWNT Radio. He later worked in Shipping and Receiving at Jim Otis and Associates. Mr. VanQuathem was an avid sports fan who enjoyed attending his son's and later his grandson's sporting events.
Survivors include his wife, Karen; daughter and son-in-law, Michele and Woody Ely, Coal Valley, Ill.; son and daughter-in-law, Alex and Carrie VanQuathem, Urbandale, Iowa; grandchildren, Jeanette and Jay Ely and Erin VanQuathem; and sisters, Elaine Denman, Barlett, Ill., and Barb Torri, Rock Island.
His parents and sister, Deanna Goderis, preceded him in death.
