Ed
Been over a year now. I miss you and wish I could of done more to help. Sandi told me this site is going down tomorrow so I thought I'd write you before it did. Remember Uptown, we were young and full of life. Being the police on Wilson Ave. We had lots of fun and your name comes up all the time when I start telling war stories.
Things are good by me, Patti and Caitlin are doing well. My baby is 10 now and not a baby anymore. I remember how you showed up at the hospital on her birthday while Patti was still in labor. Bringing me my usual breakfast of Hostess Cupcakes and coffee. Partners for nine years, Ill never have a better one. Through thick and thin, I really miss you buddy. You were a true friend. Phil

I was doing well for awhile, not feeling guilty. Then last night I was overwhelmed with guilt. I'm so sorry I couldn't be there for Christmas, Ed. I wanted to come out and asked you to buy me a ticket for months. Then you called on the 17th and asked me to come. I just stated worked after being unemployed for a year. I had told my boss I would be available the Friday after Thanksgiving and Xmas. I was afraid to change my plans. Now, I keep asking myslf, would you still be here, if I had come out for Xmas ?

Somedays it's easy and somedays it's hard. I'm learning to live without you. I hope you hear me, when I talk to you. You will always be my guiding light.

I will always hear your strong, supportive voice cheering me on as I was handed my AS at Truman, ED. You taught me that only an individual's mind limits them and their ability to conquer anything. I will always Love you.

I used to find comfort knowing that we were looking at the same moon. The moon has been full the last 2 days. What does the moon look like from heaven, Ed ? Can you see the man ?

Ed the days are in the 60's and 70's and the nights are in the 30's. I sleep with the window open. You would have slept well here. Tomorrow, sunrise is at 6:44 am and sunset is at 7:43 pm. I'm listening to the news and the birds saying good night to each other. No, my cats haven't killed all of them. I lost 3 of my feral cats so I am only feeding 6 cats at this time. :-) I have only touched 1 of my 2 remaining feral cats ever and they are almost a year. I finally got my taxes done. Took me a month of Saturday's. I miss you.

Did you ever meet a princess when you're just a regular guy ?
Did you ever fight her dragons and teach her how to fly ?
Is there a word for how you feel when your ladys passed you bye ? Did you ever love a princess and have to say good-bye ?

Like the songs:
I am who I am because he loved me.
I always thought I'd see you again, one more time.
He stopped loving her today.
Not like the song:
I didn't get to see him one last time.
The last 3 times we tried to hook up, things didn't work out. You stood me up Thanksgiving 2002 weekend, when I was in the city. You had a heart attack in June when you were supposed to come out. We were going to go camping on Orcas Island. You were so excited, as you hadn't had a vacation in years. And, so disappointed when you couldn't come. I love you because you sent Karen, out in your stead. They wouldn't let you go back to work and that was when things got worse for you. And, I couldn't come for this last Christmas or to say goodbye, because I had just started working. I miss you. I miss knowing that you were always there and that you actually cared whether I lived or died. I'm alone now, Ed and I miss you. What was simply hard before has become almost unbearable without you.

Ed was my best friend, mentor and buddy for 22 years. He was honest, loving, supportive, generous, faithful and never let me down. He was always there for me. He was kind. He worked hard. He was an honorable police officer. He helped kids and old people. He never wrote a ticket if there was a child in the car. Why ? Because, that was probably the first time the child had seen a police officer and and he wanted to leave a positive image. Ed loved helping people who couldn't help themselves. Every day, he gave his luck away to those less fortunate than he. He loved me and I him. I will always miss and honor his memory. He dared me to dream and face my dragons, and because I knew and loved him, my life is totally and forever changed. Thank you, Ed. I pray your soul is at peace.

I didn't know Ed but I did know the Healy family from Our Lady of Lourdes Parish. I was a friend of Ed's sister Barb back in grade school. I was reading an article in the paper the other day and flipped through the obituaries and recognized the Healy name. My condolences to the family.

Goodbye to one of the nicest guys to ever walk the Earth! Through St. Clement's, then De Paul Academy, then Western Illinois, and then a long career with the CPD, Ed was a great and loyal friend, with the capability to always make me laugh. Some of the best days of my life were spent hanging around Orchard Street, Alcott School, and Mary's Candy Store in early 60's with Ed, Mike Healy, Tom Carroll,Pat Kolometz, Tony Duran, Jerry Seto, etc. My condolences to his family. Ed will live forever in the stories that will be told by his many friends! Farewell,Eddy, and may you find peace up above!
