Edna Perry Obituary

Perry, Edna Burrell Retired Principal and Educator, Minister of Music, Entrepreneur and the first African American to teach in a Bridgeport School, died Sunday, February 12, 2006. She was the beloved wife of Sidney Perry; loving mother of Dr. Angela (Michael) Perry Banks, and Andrea (Lemuel) Williams. She was a graduate of Howard University; served as student assistant to Dean Warner Lawson and traveled throughout the Americas with the famed Howard University Choir. She worked at Wacker Elementary School for 32 years as teacher, assistant principal, counselor, librarian and principal. Services will be Saturday, February 18, 2006, Visitation 10 a.m. Funeral following 12 p.m. in the Church of the Good Shepherd, Congregational, 5700 S. Prairie. Interment in Oak Woods Cemetery. Arrangements by: Unity Funeral Parlors, Inc., 4114 S. Michigan, Chicago, IL, 773-624-2703.

I just recently found out about the passing of Mrs. Edna Perry and wished I could have been there for the family. The Perrys were my family's neighbors for years on 95th & Union Ave. I went to school with Angela Perry.My most heartfelt sympathy goes to Mr. Perry,Angela and Andrea and their families. Mrs. Perry was my grade school principal at Charles H. Wacker elementry school. She saw generations of my family and friends graduate. She was a postive force, great influence and strong spirit and presence in our lives---then and now.



I bless her life and her soul.

Her memory and legacy of love, education and greatness will be cherished eternally.
