Eda Sutphin Obituary

Sutphin, Eda Marie (Ede) H. Age 96, of Oak Park, passed away May 1, 2011, daughter of George and Eda Handorf in Kankakee, Ill. She was the wife of the late Karl R. Sutphin who passed away in 2004 after a celebration of both their 90th birthdays. Ede and Karl met at Austin Blvd. Christian Church and were lifelong members there and were named "Saints of the Church". They had a wonderful life together enjoying family and good friend; favorite travels were to Bass Lake Michigan and Alaska. Ede is survived by her loving daughter, Judith A. (Michael) Grady; dear grandchildren, Greg Jones, Doug Jones, Steven Jones, Teresa Weeden, Amy Robertson, and eleven great grandchildren; daughter-in-law Marilyn Sutphin, brother-in-law James C. Homer, and two nieces. She was predeceased by her precious son, David A. Sutphin January 8, 2010. Her siblings, George Handorf, Joan R. Homer and Robert C. Handorf all preceded her in death as well as her sister-in-law Norma Handorf and her beloved great-grandson Justin Jones. Ede was a special giving person with great strengths and tenderness. She volunteered at Coffee Court at West Suburban Hospital; her talents were painting, sewing, knitting and crocheting. She crocheted lap robes for the wounded soldiers at Hines Hospital. She enjoyed the beauty of nature, visiting with friends and neighbors; and all the sports on TV, especially golf and Butler Basketball. Mrs. Edie was so lovingly and tenderly cared for by her caregiver and friend Anna Lenart and recently by Renata Madej and Anna Kuloga. We are so grateful to them and also Rainbow Hospice for their care. Her dear friends and caring neighbors were a great comfort and we thank them all for their invaluable help. Ede will be deeply missed but her beautiful spirit and legacy will live in our hearts forever. Services will be at Peterson-Bassi Chapels, 6938 W. North Ave, at 11:30A.M. Saturday, May 7th with calling beforehand from 10-11:30A.M. Memorial contributions may be made to Austin Blvd Christian Church or Butler University Athletic Department.
