Dorothy Taylor Obituary

Taylor, Dorothy Wettig

Dorothy Wettig Taylor, age 100, died Tuesday, October 12 at Highland Oaks Nursing Home in Elgin, IL. She was born in East St. Louis on April 12, 1921, one of the 4 children of Gustav and Dora Wettig. She is survived by her children: Tim, Beth and Mark; and her grandchildren, Zachary, Mary, and Christopher. She was married in 1943 to Kenneth Todd Taylor, once the pastor of St Peter's UCC in Skokie. After his death in 1957, she had a varied career in nursing, retiring as School Nurse from Niles West. She also worked as a camp nurse at Conference Point Camp and assisted Drs. Mattes and DiGilio in Skokie. She was an active member of St. Peter's UCC, and after her move to Elgin in 2010, participated in 1st Congregational church of Elgin. She was never happier than when serving others, whether her family, friends, or those in need. She always had an open heart and mind to support those she encountered. Those who knew her will remember her vitality, joy and laughter.

Celebration services will be held at St. Peter's UCC, 8013 Laramie Ave., Skokie 60077 on Saturday, November 20, at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to St Peter's UCC. We are putting together a digital appreciation of our mother's life. Please send contributions, whether memories, stories, appreciation, or photos to [email protected] or by mail to Beth Taylor, 31 Lovell St., Elgin, IL 60120.

I knew Mark in high school and college. Met Dorothy couple times and remember her as a warm, genuine, accepting person, happy and sweet. She has touched many people's lives in positive ways!! Celebrate her & know that all who knew her are better for it.

I'm so sorry to hear about Mrs. Taylor. I remember her growing up at church at St. Peter's. She also was my school nurse. My favorite memory was when she diagnosed my chicken pox at one of the "May Madness" shows.

Dear Tim, Beth and Mark,
I am saddened to learn of the loss of your dear Mother. I remember her always smiling and so full of life. She raised 3 beautiful caring children. God grant you strength in the days ahead.

Our family loved being with Dorothy. We shared many pre-Thanksgiving dinners with her when she was visiting Tim in Kansas. She shared her home in Skokie with my daughters and I when we were on vacation in Chicago. We will never forget her wonderful smile and laugh. We've lost a wonderful soul on earth... sending our love
