Dorothy Smith Obituary

CASEY -- Dorothy Frances Smith, 83, of Casey, died at 12:55 p.m. Friday (April 28, 2006) at Heartland Manor Nursing Center. The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday, April 30, 2006, at the Markwell Funeral Home, in Casey, with the Rev. Ronnie Gross and the Rev. Ron Juenger officiating. Burial will be in the Casey Cumberland Cemetery. Visitation will be 1-3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. She was born April 20, 1923, in Charleston, daughter of Ralph Ashby and Frances Miller Ashby. She married Harlen G. Smith on Oct. 22, 1943, in Illinois; he died on Oct. 30, 1985. Survivors include a son, Robert Smith of Tulsa, OK; four daughters, Brenda Henson and husband Doug of Bethany, IL, Mary Gard and husband Richard of Casey, IL, Linda Cown of Craig, CO, and Barbara Van Sickle and husband Brett of Broomfield, CO; a brother, Richard "Bud" Ashby and wife Emily of Charleston, IL; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Virginia Malcolm and Catherine Carlen. Mrs. Smith was the former owner and operator of Dorothy's Flower Shop in Casey, IL. She was a member of the Casey Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Memorials may be made to the Casey Cumberland Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 21, Casey, IL, 62420. Aunt Dorothy was a genuine nice person. I remembered the many times as a kid visiting her and her family on their Casey farm.



She always prepared excellent homecook meals for her guests. She will be missed by her family, relatives, and friends.
