Dorothy Morrison Obituary

Morrison, Dorothy Elizabeth was born on April 13, 1928, in Chicago, Illinois to Ralph Caldwell Elliott, Sr. and Lucy (Allen) Elliott. Both parents preceded her in death. Dorothy departed this life Monday, October 23, 2006. Dorothy Morrison was the kind and generous person with a heart of gold, a strong work ethics and a quest for excellence in every facet of her work. Dorothy met and married the dashing Harold Leroy Morrison. To this union two loving and caring sons were born, Harold, and Ronald. Dorothy's loving husband preceded her in death. Dorothy demonstrated her excellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills as a Senior Housing Manager with the Chicago Housing Authority's Robert Taylor Homes, Altgeld Gardens, ABLA Homes, Ida B Wells Apartments and several CHA Senior Citizen Buildings. Dorothy was awarded numerous plaques and awards from the residents and management of the Chicago Housing Authority. Dorothy retired from the Chicago Housing Authority after 25 years of outstanding service. Dorothy was a devoted mother and inspired her sons to maintain a strong work ethic and involvement in community service. After Dorothy retired she began a career of community service. She joined the Volunteer Corp of the DuSable Museum of African American, and later the Museum's Women's Board. Soon, Dorothy took on additional duties as a Parent Coordinator for the Principal Scholars Program at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She volunteered for Operation Breadbasket, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, Rainbow PUSH and PUSH Excel. In early 1990, Dorothy created her own company titled "Events by Morrison". Some of her clients included The Reverend Johnnie Coleman of Christ Universal Temple, the Illinois Cook County Board of Commissioners, Chicago Lyric Opera, Central City Productions, ABLE (Alliance of Business Leaders and Entrepreneurs), Magic Johnson Foundation, the National Basketball Association. Dorothy's outstanding work led her to the position of Special Events Coordinator for Central City Productions. In her special capacity, she coordinated the firm's participation in the Annual Bud Biliken Parade, and served as Audience Producer for the Annual Gospel Stellar Awards Program that was televised nationally. Dorothy was an avid bridge player and was a member of the same bridge club for the last 10 years. Traveling was another of her passions and she visited Spain, London, Tahiti, Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone and Alaska. Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory loving son, Harold and wife, Vivian; grandchildren, Kwame, Maya Morrison (Tino Sadder) Sadder, great-grandson, Justin Sadder and Ayesha Morrison; loving son, Ronald; grandchildren, Ronald Jr. and Antoine; a devoted brother, Ralph (Dolores) Elliott; loving aunt, Dorothy Wilson; and a host of cousins, friends and neighbors.

We are so sorry for your loss. Even though we never met Dorothy in person we feel as if we knew her in some way. She was a client of ours (we're a messenger service)and we often delivered packages to her grandson Kwame while he was at UIC. Please accept our deepest condolences.
