Dorothy Cope Obituary

Dorothy Cope, age 85, of Jewett died suddenly Monday, Sept. 15, 2008, in Trinity West Hospital at Steubenville.
Born Sept. 22, 1922, in Unionvale, she was a daughter of the late H.S. and Annie Long. Dorothy and her husband owned Cope's Pet Haven in Jewett for over 20 years. Dorothy enjoyed her birds, working crossword puzzles, reading and spending time with her family.
Surviving are her husband, George Cope, whom she married Jan. 2, 1943; a son, Alfred (Pauline) Cope of East Sparta; three daughters, Carol (Jack) Blackburn of Summerfield, Fla., Nel Weese of Minerva and Becky (Tom) Albaugh of Scio; a sister, Edith Lloyd of Canton; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Sue Elias who helped look after her.
Services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in Koch Funeral Home at Scio. Burial will follow in Fairview Gardens Cemetery at Jewett. Friends may call Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

When I think of my Aunt Dorothy, I remember the weeks I would spend in the summer staying with her and the family. She always treated me with kindness, but also like one her kids, which included chores. I will miss her.
