Dorothy Bartley Obituary

CAYUGA | Dorothy E. Bartley, 81, of Wheat Street, Cayuga, passed away peacefully Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at Cortland Regional Medical Center. Born in Seneca Falls, she was the daughter of the late George and Laura Marsh Tavener. Dorothy was a graduate of Union Springs High School and Auburn Business School. Dorothy retired in 1993, after working 21 years at Welch Allyn, Skaneateles Falls, in the shipping department. She was a member of the Cayuga United Methodist Church. Dot was an avid collector of teddy bears and all things “cats.� An animal lover her whole life, she enjoyed feeding and watching the wildlife in her backyard. She loved camping with her family and appreciated sunsets and walking on the beach. She is survived by her daughter, Melea J. Bartley, of Cortland; her sister, Arlene Hurlbutt, of Cayuga; her twin brother, Donald Tavener (Thea), of Cayuga and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by her loving husband of 57 years, Ralph; an infant son, Ralph Jr. and brother, Harvey Tavener. Friends are invited to call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Nicpon Funeral Home, 235 State St., Auburn; funeral services to follow. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make contributions to the Cayuga Fire Department, PO Box 315, Cayuga or to the Cayuga United Methodist Church, 6205 Center St., Cayuga, in memory of Dorothy.

Dear Melea,

Sorry to hear about Aunt Dot. I don't know if you knew this, but I used to go and stay with Aunt Dot and Uncle Ralph when I was young and they lived on Mary St. in Auburn. They always made sure that I had a good time.
Please know I will always rember the both of them.
